Our aim was to create an enlivening, exciting space and link the two rooms yet give each their own purpose and identity.

The clients wanted to create an exciting yet cocooning space with elegant lines and pattern. The scalloped lines of the brass castored armchairs soften the vertical lines seen in the joinery and fireplace elements. We designed the cabinetry with disguised bifold doors, to hide the TV which we installed on a cantilevered arm.

With the beautiful Georgian sash window as the focal point, we chose a floral and leaf wall paper to echo the lush green garden view. The skirting, doors and architraves were painted in deep hicks blue to provide contrast and a further link to the blue drawing room beyond. We laid prime grade engineered oak herringbone blocks in light oak, to provide warmth and subtle pattern to lead the eye forwards.

A combination of textured seagrass and reflective mirror glass was applied to the rear of the joinery boxing providing a rich canvas for the objects inside.

A three panelled mural of the Chinese Yunnan mountains uplift and inspire. The panel's textured matt surface in indigo ink contrasts with the dark smooth lacquer of the Chinese Chest. A bespoke upholstered box ottoman covered in a wide striped weave provides an enlivening yet practical piece to compliment the scheme.

The client had found it hard to read music in the evenings, so we installed a simple, sleek brass two armed wall light to provide a practical, flexible light source.
